Mining and Critical Minerals Worker

Work at surface or underground mines and mineral processing sites, including lithium, rare earth and other critical minerals.

Licensing: Federal MSHA rules require new miner training before or soon after starting (24 hours under Part 46 or Part 48 surface; 40 hours before assignment underground) and at least 8 hours of refresher training every year. The mine operator provides it during normal working hours at normal pay. Supervisory roles in some states, such as Pennsylvania mine foreman, need a state certification.
